苦しい時、辛い時、いつも背中を押してくれたのはトモダチの存在だった。2015年3月、東京ドームで行われた『TOMODACHI Charity Baseball Game』の為に来日した、デレク・ジーター氏と松井秀喜氏は、それぞれ監督として、在日米軍Jrユース選抜、東北3県中学生選抜を率いて親睦試合を行った。試合を通して、ふたりが子ども達に伝えたことは、『トモダチのチカラ』。認め合うこと、助け合うこと、力を合わせること、感謝することの大切さを子ども達に伝えました。

In March 2015, Derek Jeter and Hideki Matsui came to Japan and held the “Tomodachi Charity Baseball Game” in Tokyo Dome. It was a baseball match between the U.S. Jr. Youth Selection and Tohoku 3 prefecture high school students. What they conveyed to the children through the game was the “power of friendship”. The children learned the importance of accepting each other, helping each other, working together, and being grateful.

「東日本大震災から5年を迎えた東北の更なる力になりたい」と来日。TOKYO2020のゴルフ競技の開催地に決まった「霞が関カンツリー倶楽部」で、キッズゴルフクリニックを開催。「私自身、幼いころにつらい経験をした。だから、いつかワールドチャンピオンになったら、人の為に何かしたいとずっと思っていた。」と、「自分以外の誰かの為に生きることの大切さ」を伝えました。

Gary Player came to Japan to hold a golf clinic for kids at the Kasumigaseki Country Club, which has been chosen as the venue for the TOKYO 2020 golf tournament.
“I, myself had a difficult experience when I was a child. That’s why I’ve always wanted to do something for others when I become a world champion.”, he said, conveying the importance of living for someone other than yourself.

2011年、ニュージーランドのクライストチャーチ地震を経験したリッチー・マコウ（ラグビー）とダン・カーター（ラグビー）は、それぞれ2017年と2016年に、来日。東日本大震災の被災地で唯一ラグビーワールドカップの開催地に選ばれた岩手県釜石市を訪れた両雄は、クライストチャーチ地震の経験や何度も怪我や困難を乗り越えWorld Cupでチームを優勝に導いた経験から、子ども達に、決して、逆境に負けないこと強い気持ちを持つことの大切さをマオリの言葉で、こう伝えました。『Kia Kaha!（強くあれ）』。

Rugby players Dan Carter and Richie McCaw, who both experienced the Christchurch, New Zealand earthquake in 2011, visited Japan in 2016 and 2017, respectively. Both athletes visited Kamaishi City in Iwate prefecture, the disaster-stricken area selected to host the Rugby World Cup, and spoke to the children about the importance of never giving up during an adversity and having a strong spirit based on their experiences of the Christchurch earthquake and overcoming many injuries and difficulties to lead their team to victory in the World Cup.
