サンマリノ共和国はイタリア半島の中東部に位置する人口3万人の世界で5番目に小さな共和制国家です。また、現存する世界最古の共和国としても知られています。また、非常に親日国でもあり、その象徴として、2014年、サンマリノ共和国には、欧州初の日本神社が建立されました。この神社建立を記念して、サンマリノ共和国でのプログラムを実施しました。サンマリノ共和国の公用語は、イタリア語。英語で思うように会話が出来ない中でも、ホストファミリーの温かなサポートのおかげで、「帰りたくない」と心を通わせるほどの交流を経験することが出来ました。また、サンマリノ共和国の大きな特徴である政治についても子ども達は学びます。大統領は2人いて、6ヶ月で交代すること。政治家は、全員ほかに仕事を持っていて副業で行っていることなど、驚きと学びの多い研修となりました。

The Republic of San Marino is the fifth smallest republic in the world, located in the central eastern part of the Italian peninsula with a population of 30,000 people. It is known as the oldest existing republic in the world. It is a very pro-Japanese country, and as a symbol for it, the first Japanese shrine in Europe was built there in 2014. To commemorate the shrine, we organized the San Marino program. The official language of the country is Italian, and even though we could not speak English as we would have liked, thanks to the warm support of our host families, we were able to experience a heart-to-heart exchange that made us say, “We don’t want to leave." The children also learned about politics, which is a major attribute of San Marino. It has two presidents that change every six months, and all politicians have sideline jobs.
